It has been a great Macaroni week

It has been a great week for Macaroni Kid Lakewood! I would like welcome all of our new readers this week.  We had a huge weekend at the Baby & Kidz Expo and have gained well over 100 new subscribers this week, so a big WELCOME to all of you, and thank you so much for becoming part of the Macaroni Kid family.

Pepperoni Dip:

1 cup mayo, 1/2 cup sour cream, 1 package of pepperoni, pumpernickel bread cubes 

 Blend first 3 ingredients together in a blender and scoop into bowl.  Refridgerate for 30 minutes to blend flavors.  Serve with pumpernickel bread...or crackers.  This dip is so simple, but all of the flavor you get from the pepperoni is mouth watering... you will be surprised with this one!

Fruit Dip:

An Easy Valentine's Day Craft

Affection Flowers 

Materials:
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Green craft paint
  • E-Z felt (stiff felt) in a variety of colors
  • Tacky glue
  • Small plant pots and paper grass


Steps:

  • Paint the Popsicle sticks green and allow to dry.
  • Cut heart shapes out of the E-Z felt. Glue them to each other in designs of your choice. Then glue them to the Popsicle sticks. Allow to dry.
  • Fill each pot with paper grass and arrange a “flower” in each. Place in nursery out of reach of baby.

The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Saturday, February 5 - 10th Annual Chocolate Affair

This fun family event, presented by the Arvada Festivals Commission and Historic Olde Town Arvada, features a Taste of Chocolate, the Chocolate Treasure Hunt, a Chocolate Cookie Contest, romantic carriage rides, face painting, balloon artistry and storytelling.  Calorie-craving chocolate lovers can sample chocolate-based food and drink presented by several invited chocolatiers, bakers, and restaurants. Visit Olde Town stores searching for creative chocolate clues. Teams and individuals will compete for prize drawings of large chocolate-enriched baskets of goodies. Last year over 30 businesses provided clues and over 200 groups participated.

Let the Babies Boogie!
It is Sunday afternoon and the kids are restless. What do you do? We know a place, the perfect location, in Old Town Arvada on Grandview Avenue called the D Note. Every Sunday the kids, from 1 month to 12 years old, come and enjoy music, both by listening to it, playing it and dancing to it. Parents relax at their tables, watching the kids dance and play together - great entertainment in and of itself. The children make new friends and greet some old ones. Some even make this a weekly gathering spot.

These youth workshops will teach kids to operate a camera, compose photographs, use light and shadow, look at shots from different angles, and consider color in their shots, to name just a few of the elements to be addressed. Have you ever looked at the world through the eyes of dog, cat, or a lizard? Most animals are much shorter than we are so how they see the world is quite different than the way we view it. For this class, kids will get down low on bellies or knees as they photograph Belmar the way an animal might see it.

The darkness of night provides a unique backdrop for a hiking adventure. So leave those flashlights at home and hone your night vision as you are guided by a park naturalist along the trails of Lakewood’s Bear Creek Lake Park and surrounding green spaces. Wear comfortable hiking shoes and dress for the weather conditions. Bring water and good walking shoes. We will meet at the Visitor Center. No dogs please.

A list of local library, store and museum storytimes

Jefferson County Library storytimes are designed for specific age groups. Please bring your child to the appropriate one.
Baby Time is for babies up to 2 years, unless otherwise specified.
Toddlers are 2-3 years old.
Preschoolers are 4-6 years old.
Family Nights are for all ages.
Children under 4 years must be with an adult during storytime.

Kids Eat FREE!!


There are a lot of places in the metro area that have Kids Eat Free (or practically free) Nights!  Here is a list of ones that we know of, and we would love to hear about any that you know to add to our list!  Always call ahead to confirm that they are still having a Kid's Eat Free Night because restaurants can change these at any time.

Also if you find out we have something wrong please let us know.
