4th of July Crafts - Safe Sparklers


Your child will love making these shiny sparklers. The best part: they won’t burn little hands and will never go out!

What you'll need:

 

12” wooden dowel
White acrylic craft paint
Gold glitter glue or paint
2 gold chenille stems
Gold foil-type garland
Scissors

White craft glue

How to make it:



  1. Paint the dowel with white paint and let dry.
  2. When paint is dry, add a coat of gold glitter glue or paint. Let dry.

Strawberry Bread


Looking for a different treat to use fresh strawberries? Try this great strawberry bread.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup sugar

1 t baking powder

1/2 t baking soda

1/4 t salt

1/4 t ground coriander

1/4 t nutmeg

1 t ground cinnamon

2 eggs

1 t vanilla extract

6 T melted butter

Sunburn Really is a BURN
Sunburn is caused by too much exposure to the ultraviolet radiation of the sun. This over-exposure commonly causes first degree burns which will make skin red and painful. Second degree burns, or deep sunburns, will lead to the formation of blisters on the skin.

Very Berry Lemonade


Who doesn't love homemade lemonade at a BBQ? This is a delicious treat for your family and guests. Let the kids help by having them squeeze the lemons for juice while you spend some quality time and build lasting memories.

Ingredients:
  • 9 cups of cold water
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 3 cups of fresh lemon juice (about 16 lemons)
  • 3 strips of lemon peel (3 inches by 1 inch each)
  • 1 cup of raspberries
  • 1 cup of blackberries

Saturday, June 25 through Sunday, June 26 - Colorado Railroad Museum German Heritage Festival

Welcommen to a weekend of Dancenhoppen, Railriden and Giftshoppen and hands-on history for the whole family. Enjoy Traditional German foods and entertainment with, brass bands, accordion players and polka bands that will be featured throughout the event along with heritage dancers.

Kids can participate in Kinderleicht crafts and games with Spike, the railyard depot dog, dressed in his lederhosen and an alpine hat. During the festivities, the No. 346 locomotive will be up and running around the museums grounds, allowing visitors to ride the rails.

It is Sunday afternoon and the kids are restless. What do you do? We know a place, the perfect location, in Old Town Arvada on Grandview Avenue called the D Note. Every Sunday the kids, from 1 month to 12 years old, come and enjoy music, both by listening to it, playing it and dancing to it. Parents relax at their tables, watching the kids dance and play together - great entertainment in and of itself. The children make new friends and greet some old ones. Children can learn about rhythm and musical beats as they get to participate in a real drumming circle. Each child will get to use one of the many drums at this program and will also learn about the cultures of drums.

Dance2live: Break Dancing Class! Get fit and have fun! Breakdancing is a healthy way to express yourself. This all-levels class is led by the local, professional dance troop, Dance2Live.

Thursday, July 7 - Rocky Mountain Puppets

Sing and play with the Rocky Mountain Puppets. They are a variety of cute and cuddly characters. Presenter Meghan Casey started puppeteering at age 6 and is now still young enough to identify with her young audience but has the sage experience to make the show an exciting and lively professional performance for all.

Thursday, July 7 - Rhythmic Drumming

Beat away the blues and learn stress relieving rhythms in this interactive drumming class. Teens will learn about the history and culture of rhythmic meditative drumming and there are plenty of drums for all!

Kids Eat FREE!!


There are a lot of places in the metro area that have Kids Eat Free (or practically free) Nights!  Here is a list of ones that we know of, and we would love to hear about any that you know to add to our list!  Always call ahead to confirm that they are still having a Kid's Eat Free Night because restaurants can change these at any time.
