Elf on a Shelf - A Christmas Tradition


Do you have an Elf of your own sent by Santa??  We do and his name is Johnny!  

Last November was the first time I heard about the The Elf On The Shelf - A Christmas Tradition and decided to buy the book for my family.  Our elf showed up the day after Thanksgiving last year and stayed until Christmas Eve.  I can honestly say, almost a whole year later my boys are still talking about our elf Johnny!  They loved how Johnny sat in a different place to watch them ...

Friday, December 2 - Olde Golden Christmas and Candlelight Walk

Experience the beauty of the season as you walk down Washington Avenue, the Main Street of Golden, candle in hand, singing holiday carols. The hometown Candlelight and Caroling Walk offers an authentic way to start the season of lights and is open to all.  As the group walks down Washington Avenue, each block is lit until the group reaches the Golden Visitor's Center and the Mayor lights the Christmas tree.
 
Hot beverages, cookies and entertainment will be provided at several businesses and cultural attractions. After the Candlelight Walk, children will enjoy petting the live reindeer in the parking lot of the Golden Visitor's Center. Festive dress is encouraged.

The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Trains have been in the backdrop of the holidays for generations…but this year, Santa has decided to replace his sleigh and reindeer with Colorado Railroad Museum’s locomotive and a team of historic passenger cars all decked out for the holidays. The train departs every 30 minutes between 10:00AM - 4:00PM. Children will want to bring their wish list to share with Santa and Mrs. Claus and then enjoy hot chocolate by the Depot General Store—where they’ll find a generous supply of railroad toys and a huge selection of Thomas the Tank Engine gifts.

Let the Babies Boogie!
It is Sunday afternoon and the kids are restless. What do you do? We know a place, the perfect location, in Old Town Arvada on Grandview Avenue called the D Note. Every Sunday the kids, from 1 month to 12 years old, come and enjoy music, both by listening to it, playing it and dancing to it. Parents relax at their tables, watching the kids dance and play together - great entertainment in and of itself. The children make new friends and greet some old ones. Some even make this a weekly gathering spot.

The darkness of night provides a unique backdrop for a hiking adventure. So leave those flashlights at home and hone your night vision as a park naturalist guides you along the trails of Lakewood’s Bear Creek Lake Park and surrounding green spaces. These hikes are designed for the whole family, but keep in mind each one will average an hour and a half of walking and observing. And don’t forget to dress appropriately and wear appropriate shoes for Colorado’s everchanging weather. No dogs please.

Sunday, December 11 - Holiday's Eve at the Museum

The gentle glow of “luminarias” and the crackle of bonfires will call as you wander the grounds and light the way to wagon rides, carolers, and music reminiscent of times gone by. Gingerbread cookies, corn bread, hot cider, and nostalgia will warm you. 

The 1860's Farm will be decorated for the holidays in the 1860's tradition. Interpreters will be dressed in costume and will portray life during Littleton's early history. The mules will have their bells on and ready for wagon rides.

The 1890's Farm will also be decorated in the appropriate style of that period with entertainment in the farmhouse. Santa will be listening to children's wishes.
