I am neck deep in holiday hoopla!  School parties, family parties, shopping, visits with Santa, we are in holiday overload.  I will keep this short because I have to get back to wrapping teacher presents and baking brunch dishes for tomorrows school holiday parties!

There are so many wonderful holiday events going on around town over the next week. If you know of one that we should be including in our calendar make sure you send me an email! We would love to include as many events as possible!

This is so easy, so cute, and it makes the house smell amazing!

Cinnamon Ornaments

What you need:

  • 3/4 cup applesauce
  • 4 oz cinnamon (I found a bottle that was 3.88oz.)
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Straw or toothpick
  • String

Mix applesauce and cinnamon together

Kneed until it can be rolled out

Roll out

Cut with cookie cutters

Make a hole with a straw or toothpick

Put on rack until dry (1-2 days)

The Denver Nuggets will kick-start the 2011-12 season with a FREE FAN JAM. The intrasquad scrimmage featuring returning starters Danilo Gallinari, Ty Lawson and newcomers Kenneth Faried and Jordan Hamilton.

Saturday, December 17 - Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Railroad Museum

Trains have been in the backdrop of the holidays for generations…but this year, Santa has decided to replace his sleigh and reindeer with Colorado Railroad Museum’s locomotive and a team of historic passenger cars all decked out for the holidays. The train departs every 30 minutes between 10:00AM - 4:00PM. Children will want to bring their wish list to share with Santa and Mrs. Claus and then enjoy hot chocolate by the Depot General Store—where they’ll find a generous supply of railroad toys and a huge selection of Thomas the Tank Engine gifts.

After the parade, festivities continue with strolling musicians, tasty treats and FREE horse-drawn carriage rides. It's fun, and it really does make your Christmas shopping more appealing.

The Music Train (Family Concert Series) produces family friendly shows at an affordable price. This month we are featuring the national award winning and family favorite, THE OKEE DOKEE BROTHERS.  A highly entertaining bluegrass duo performing witty originals and great holiday music.

Let the Babies Boogie!
It is Sunday afternoon and the kids are restless. What do you do? We know a place, the perfect location, in Old Town Arvada on Grandview Avenue called the D Note. Every Sunday the kids, from 1 month to 12 years old, come and enjoy music, both by listening to it, playing it and dancing to it. Parents relax at their tables, watching the kids dance and play together - great entertainment in and of itself. The children make new friends and greet some old ones. Some even make this a weekly gathering spot.

Are you a budding gingerbread house architect?  Think you’ve got what it takes to make a true gingerbread house masterpiece?  Come put your skills to the test!  Once the creations are completed, we’ll have a competition to determine the best house.  Get creative!  We’ll provide the basic supplies, but feel free to bring along any extra building materials you’d like to use.  The only rule is that the material must be edible!  You can even put your completed house on display in the library.
