Halloween is Sneaking Up

Are you ready?

Halloween is right around the corner and my kids are having their yearly struggle with what to be.  "Is Superman cooler than Batman?  What about IronMan?  Should I be a football player or hockey player?  What is Joey going to be because I want to be the same as him."  I try very hard to let them decide for themselves but I certainly add my mom input and steer them towards certain things.  This time of year I always have that pang for a little girl.  Someone to dress up ...

The perfect Halloween meal

Years ago I found this recipe in a cooking magazine and we have been making it for our Halloween dinner ever since!  My son loves eating his spaghetti from a "pumpkin" and it's very easy to make.  Quick and easy always works for dinner, but especially on Halloween!  There are two versions, the long and short, but for this article I'm writing the short and easy version.

Join us for a non-scary, Halloween hike in the enchanted ponderosa pine forest.  You can visit the Nature Center, make a craft, and enjoy a storyteller.  You may arrive any time between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., and you are welcome to stay until 8:30 p.m.  Arrive as early as possible to make the most of all activities!

Let the Babies Boogie!
It is Sunday afternoon and the kids are restless. What do you do? We know a place, the perfect location, in Old Town Arvada on Grandview Avenue called the D Note. Every Sunday the kids, from 1 month to 12 years old, come and enjoy music, both by listening to it, playing it and dancing to it. Parents relax at their tables, watching the kids dance and play together - great entertainment in and of itself. The children make new friends and greet some old ones. Some even make this a weekly gathering spot.

Go Trick or Treating at the Colorado Railroad Museum in the Halloween Town – the safe place to enjoy Halloween. Catch a ride behind the historic locomotive in vintage passenger cars hosted by conductors and engineers in full costume. The Trick or Treat Train departs every 20 minutes between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Visit the Town’s special stops to fill your treat bag and tickle your funny bones. It is a page out of history... it is a testament to today's youth... it's a combination of skill, horsemanship, colorful costumes and fast paced action set to music, it is Horsecapades!  Come see the Westernaires recreate a bit of Buffalo Bill's Wild West. Performances Include:
 - Precision Drill Performances - El Latigo Del Diablo - The Freedom Riders - Riders of the Steppes
 - Trick and Fancy Roping - Calvary and Indian Battle - Liberty Riders and more!

We’ve all seen kids selling big name-brand candy for their school fundraisers and it raises a host of issues.  Where does the candy come from?  Is it healthy?  Who benefits?

Parents Need Their Sleep

Sleep is something I think most parents can never get enough of.  It is one of things I tell myself that I will eventually get more of and hope that eventually it will uninterrupted.  So far it hasn't happened.  This is one of the reasons that the little sleep that we as parents do get is so important.

Stortimes Around Town

Storytimes are designed for specific age groups. Please bring your child to the appropriate one.  Baby Time is for babies up to 2 years, unless otherwise specified.  Toddlers are 2-3 years old.  Preschoolers are 4-6 years old.  Family Nights are for all ages.  Children under 4 years must be accompanied by an adult during all storytimes.
