By Kyrie Collins, Highlands Ranch-Parker-Castle Rock-Lone Tree Publisher February 4, 2016

This Sunday is a great time for family and friends to gather together and enjoy good food, funny commercials, and — of course — cheering on our beloved Broncos!

Did you know?

  • This is Denver's 8th trip to the Super Bowl. The New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, and Pittsburgh Steelers are the only other teams with eight appearances.
  • The Carolina Panthers have made the playoffs seven times since they began playing in 1995, but this is their first visit.
  • The first Super Bowl was held in Los Angeles on January 15, 1967.
  • This will be the second time the San Francisco area has hosted the Big Game.
  • Super Bowl Sunday ranks second only to Thanksgiving when it comes to food consumption. Fans will devour roughly 28 million pounds of chips, 8 million pounds of guacamole, and 1 billion (yup, billion!) hot wings.
  • 7-Eleven's antacid sales increase by about 20% the day after the Super Bowl. About 6% of viewers actually call in sick.
  • A 30-second commercial run during the game costs roughly $5 million (that's up 11% from last year's price of $4.5 million)!
  • Last year's Super Bowl broke a new record as the most watched TV show in history. In fact, the last six Super Bowls are the six most watched TV shows ever. Before that, the final episode of M*A*S*H* (which had 105.9 millions viewers) had held the record since it aired in 1983!
  • The Animal Planet will air its 12th Annual Puppy Bowl, for those who prefer retrievers over receivers.
