On Monday, October 14th, we’ll recognize Christopher Columbus, the explorer best known for discovering America.
Let’s use this day as a reason to create an explorer experience for our kids by helping them put Columbus’ qualities of persistence and creativity to work during a “Day of Discovery.”
Need a few ideas for discoveries to make? We’ve got four!
Discover a new food. Encourage your explorers to take a bite of something new today – it could be a new recipe or a new food entirely. Begin the adventure at the grocery store as you pick out the food together. Then prepare the new snack or meal together.
Discover a new book. The shelves of the local library or bookstore are an invitation to the New World! Find a new author or a new genre of book and dig in.
Discover a new place. That little park down the street where you’ve never been? That new museum you just haven’t visited yet? Today’s the day to discover them! Pack a picnic or jump in the car and spend your afternoon exploring.
Discover a new skill. If your kids are sports fanatics, today’s the day for them to try their hand at a craft or musical instrument … and vice versa. Or maybe there’s something else they’ve always wanted to try. Today’s the day! Who knows? It may be the start of a whole new hobby!
What else will you discover?
