2014 HALLOWEEN CANDY BUY-BACK

October 30, 2014
Between Halloween parties with friends, Halloween parties at school, special events around town, trick-or-treating at local businesses, and trick-or-treating in our neighborhood, my boys collect A LOT of Halloween candy. Pounds and pounds of it! I certainly don't want them eating all that candy but the trick-or-treating is part of the fun so I don't want to limit their participation in these events either.

Every year, we participate in the Halloween Candy Buy Back through our pediatric dentist. Each year, dentists and orthodontists around the country participate in Halloween candy buy-back events, buying Halloween treats with cash, coupons, toothbrushes, and other creative exchanges. They then ship all the candy to Operation Gratitude, which delivers it to our troops deployed overseas so they can enjoy a sweet treat too! Win-win-win!!!

I let my kids choose 25 pieces of candy that they can keep, then after they go to bed I sort through the rest for my own favorites (don't judge ... you know you do it too!). The rest goes to our dentist, who pays my boys $1 per pound of candy — just the right amount for a trip to a dollar store.

Use the zip code lookup feature on the Halloween Candy Buy Back website to find a participating dentist near you (be sure to call first to verify collection hours and participation).
