Macaroni Craft: Peppermint Candy Ornaments

By Julie Dikken, Pulisher Macaroni Kid Evergreen, Bailey & Conifer December 18, 2014
These ornaments are super easy to make. The trick to the clean, rounded edges is to cut them into shapes after the candy cools a bit. Left over pieces of candy can be crushed and used to make peppermint bark or to add to hot cocoa!

What you will need:
  • "Star" Peppermint Candies
  • Cookie sheet
  • Parchment Paper or silicon cookie sheet liners
  • Cookie Cutters
  • Toothpick or wooden skewer
  • Ribbon

Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Remove candies from wrappers.
  • Place candies on parchment covered cookie sheet in the shape of the cutter you will use. I used hearts, and candy cane shaped cookie cutters.

  • Place cookie sheet in oven. Bake for 5-9 minutes, but watch closely. Candies are ready when melted, but not bubbling.
  • Remove from oven and let cool for about 3 minutes. **Caution melted candy is very HOT** Candies will continue to smooth out after removed from the oven. Place cookie cutter on slightly cooled melted candy and cut through. Use toothpick or wooden skewer to make a hole for the string. Leave cookie cutter in place until candy is completely cool and hardened.
  • Once hardened, remove pieces of candy from outside of cookie cutter. Carefully remove candy ornament from cookie cutter.
  • Tie ribbon to hang.
