FAMILY ACTIVITY: Shop Together & Donate to a Local Food Pantry

By Barbara Evangelista, Publisher (Updated for Lakewood-Littleton by Christen Reiner, Macaroni Kid Lakewood-Littleton Editor and Publisher) November 16, 2017

During the holiday season, our thoughts naturally turn to ways that we can help others who may be struggling. Local food pantries have experienced large increases in the populations they serve over the last few years and need donations of basic non-perishable items year-round and holiday items during the holiday season.

Why not take the kids on a special grocery store trip just for your local food pantry? Gather holiday meal items and include some year-round essentials too and drop off your donation at one of the local food pantries listed below. Your donation will make a world of difference to a local family that is struggling.

Below are lists of items that local food pantries are collecting during the holiday season and year-round:

Holidays:

  • Pre-packaged baked goods
  • Boxed potatoes
  • Canned vegetables
  • Coffee & tea
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Gravy (packets, can, jar)
  • Fresh & frozen turkeys, hams, chickens
  • Supermarket gift cards
