Teen Entrepreneurs: Grinch Delights Local Families with Home Visits

By Christen Reiner, Macaroni Kid Lakewood-Littleton & Macaroni Kid Denver Editor and Publisher December 4, 2020

If you see The Grinch lurking around your neighborhood, don't be alarmed! It's probably 14 year old Ethan Hecker!

"I go around to kids houses and spread Christmas joy, and in a way, take their Christmas," chuckles Ethan.

The local teen entrepreneur was spending all of his free time riding his dirt bike and playing video games when his mom, Allison Hecker, showed him an idea that she had seen while scrolling on Facebook. Ethan loved it, and a business (and a brand new Grinch!) was born!

We caught up with Ethan this week and got all the Holiday Who-be What-ee on his new adventure.

πŸŽ„ How did you get the idea for your business?

My mom saw it in a Facebook group, showed me the idea. I loved it and said yes!

πŸŽ„ What was your motivation to start a business?

I wanted to save for a car.

πŸŽ„ What are some of the goals for your business?

To save 75% of my income and visit 200 houses.

πŸŽ„ Does your family support you in your business?

My mom fields my messages, writes the schedule and drives me around.

πŸŽ„ Do you want to thank or recognize anyone?

Yes, my mother a lot!

πŸŽ„ What locations do you cover?

Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Centennial, Lakewood and occasionally other cities.

πŸŽ„ How do people schedule a visit?

Email ahecker05@msn.com  or call or text (720)629-6079.

Allison's post on Facebook is what caught my eye.

This is my 14 year old Ethan- he’s saving for a car and has decided he wants to bring joy in doing so. He is asking $20 per visit -- he will spend 5-7 minutes creeping around the outside of your home while the kiddos scream with excitement (or fear 😬). He can pretend to hide your Christmas decorations (they will be placed neatly on the side of your house) and of course socially distanced pictures!

Ethan says that all the joy, excitement and smiles from all the kiddos he visits is the best part of the job. And the community is welcoming him with Holiday Cheer.

Maybe Christmas indeed doesn't come from a store...maybe Christmas means a little bit more. ❀️
