Can I get a WHOOP WHOOP for teachers?
This past year has been tough for our educators. Not your usual tough, but really, really, really tough.
They have done their best to navigate these pandemic waters, going with the flow, going above and beyond to tackle the tasks that have been demanded of them.
And, it is exhausting.
My hubs is a teacher, and I have seen first hand the toll that this year has taken on him. He has taught in person, remotely, in person and remotely at the same time, from school, and from home. He has been quarantined while his class was still at school (long story!), and his class has been quarantined while he was still at school (another long story). He has had to pivot to revamp the way he teaches at school because many of the things that teachers have done in the past have not been allowed this year. He has had to get creative in a way that has never been attempted. He has had to deal with more mental health issues that ever before, due to social distancing and pandemic crisis and fear of actual death, all while reassuring his students and their families that everything will eventually be okay.
And that's just at school.
When he is home, he is recovering from the day. Or the week. Or the month. Or the hour.
He is drained, and just wants to provide the best learning environment for his students. He wants them to feel connected, to have fun, to learn the skills they need to move on to middle school. It is a huge responsibility during a normal year. It is astronomical during this one.
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. Let's show our teachers how much we truly appreciate them this year. Like, REALLY show them. It does not have to cost a lot of money to do that. Kind words can go a long way.
THANK YOU, TEACHERS. FOR ALL THAT YOU DO. FOR ALL THAT YOU ARE TO OUR FAMILIES. FOR STICKING WITH OUR KIDS. AND US. FOR YOUR SACRIFICES, YOUR PIVOTS, YOUR CREATIVITY. AND FOR CARING ABOUT YOUR STUDENTS, NO MATTER WHAT.
