A Note From Your Publisher: The one about the movies 📝

By Christen Reiner, Macaroni Kid Lakewood-Littleton & Macaroni Kid Denver Editor and Publisher June 12, 2021

Hey Mac Families,

I went to the movies for the first time in 16 months this week. TWICE.

I had movie popcorn covered in butter. TWICE.

I just wanted to say that it was glorious. I watch movies at home almost every weekend for Movie Night (which I love), but I almost forgot how much fun it is to see movies up on the big screen.

I figured that some of you might be hitting the theatre soon, so I wanted to give you my thoughts on the two movies we saw.

CRUELLA

It was brilliant. I was a little hesitant to see Cruella because not gonna lie, I am not a huge fan of 101 Dalmations. (Yeah, I know, that's not a popular opinion.) This new version had some throwbacks to the original, but Cruella's storyline was no regular kids' movie. In fact, I wouldn't bring anyone younger than 9 or 10. There was some dark moments that little kids might find scary. Emma Stone and Emma Thompson killed it. A definite must see.

IN THE HEIGHTS

Lin-Manuel Miranda is dang good at what he does. Although a bit slow at times, if you like a good musical, you will love In the Heights.  I laughed, I cried, and I danced. Yes, in my seat. And I don't feel bad about that at all. Ha! There were a few cast members that hopped over from Hamilton, so that was fun, and Lin's musical style is very distinct, almost reminiscent of Hamilton's soundtrack. The younger crowd will love the music, for sure, and teens and adults are gonna go nuts for it all!

There are quite a few movies that are set to release this summer, so you'll have plenty of great options if you decide to venture out to the theatre. Splurge and get the popcorn... trust me.

Peace ☮️, Love ❤️, & Macaroni 🌼,
