A Note From Your Publisher: The one about Father's Day 📝

By Christen Reiner, Macaroni KID Lakewood-Littleton & Macaroni KID Denver Editor and Publisher June 16, 2023

Hey Mac Families,

Got big plans for the weekend?

It's Father's Day, y'all!

I struggle with the Father's Day celebration every year. I'm lucky to have amazing dads in my life, and of course we want to spoil them a bit on their special day. Unfortunately, they are difficult to shop for in general, so finding the perfect Father's Day gift is even harder! So how do we show them how much they are appreciated?

I stick to four categories:

Food - I always try to get my hubs his favorite donut to start off the day, and a trip to Burger King or KFC is always well-received (plus I don't have to cook... BONUS!).

Sleep - The hubs rarely sleeps in but we all make sure that he gets to on Father's Day. There may even be a nap involved.

Experience - A simple picnic or a trip to the pool is a favorite around here. My hubs is a runner so making sure he has time for that is always a plus. As my kids have gotten older, we have added gifting fun experiences like concerts or trips to local amusement parks to the list. Pretty much any experience will work!

Gift - As I mentioned, this is always difficult! A tie decorated with fabric paint, a handprint shirt (my hubs has saved these and worn them to HS graduations!), a new book, and a Kiva gift certificate have been faves over the years. I've had to get creative in more recent years... experiences vs. physical gifts, gift packs like an amazing tumbler that keeps your drink cold for 24 hours paired with a few bottles of his favorite beverages... you get the idea. It does not need to be fancy to be effective!

Sidenote... haven't heard of Kiva?

Kiva is a loan program where you can choose from thousands of loan requests, all around the world. With a 96%+ rate of repayment, you can "fund a loan, get repaid, fund another". You do not have to fund the entire loan (you can give as little as $25), and you get to choose the request that speaks to you. Opt to lend to people within your community, or people halfway around the world... whatever you choose, Kiva offers the opportunity to play a special part in someone else's story.

(I am not affiliated with Kiva in any way... I just think it's super cool.)

Whatever you choose to do to celebrate the dads and dad-figures in your life, I hope that you have an amazing day together.

And to all the Mac Dads.... Happy Father's Day! Hope you feel appreciated and loved this year.

Peace ☮️, Love ❤️, & Macaroni 🌼,
