A Note From Your Publisher: The one about the Ring 📝

By Christen Reiner, Macaroni KID Lakewood-Littleton & Macaroni KID Denver Editor and Publisher January 22, 2022

Hey Mac Families,

For Christmas 2020, I was gifted a Ring video doorbell. I was pretty excited but for some unknown reason, that thing sat around for a whole year before I finally got a bee in my bonnet, and decided to install it. Life got away from me, I guess.

So install it I did. It wasn't too hard to do.... in fact it was really easy. I was ready to start watching the world from the comfort of my couch.

The only problem? I wasn't prepared for the consequences of the constant eyeball looking out from my front porch. Here's what I mean...

  • Have you ever watched yourself come in your front door with your hands full while you fumble for your keys? I wouldn't advise it.
  • I am now notified of all the vehicles that drive by my house. Every. Single. One.
  • I feel the need to look at what the "motion at my front door" is. Every. Time.
  • My voice from the doorbell to the outside world is embarrassingly LOUD.
  • I work from home so I am often coming and going by myself. I don't mind it at all, but my family says that I look lonely and sad in the Ring videos. Uhhhh, what?
  • My daughter also has the Ring app and will call me out on my comings and goings, my secret lunches, and my Starbucks runs.
  • My family feels the need to pose or put on a show for the camera when they come home. From anywhere. Every time.
  • My youngest must ring the doorbell anytime he leaves the house.
  • Now that I know how clearly I can see and hear my neighbors outside, I am pretty terrified about going anywhere where there might be a Ring that is recording MY every move. What if I pick my nose or say something weird about the person who lives there?

So, the Ring's residency on my house might be short lived. Not sure the awkwardness it is causing is worth being able to watch my neighbor's dog poop in my front yard. Just sayin'.

Peace ☮️, Love ❤️, & Macaroni 🌼,
