A Note From Your Publisher: The one about the 6th grade social 📝

September 16, 2023

Hey Mac Families!

My 11 year old went to his first school social tonight. He has had his "fit" ready for weeks, and tried it on more times than I can count (and probably way more than I am aware of). He got the approval of his high school aged sister, practiced his hairstyle, and felt confident with what he was going to look like.

Until he wasn't. The doubts snuck in. Were his friends going to dress to the theme (flannel and frost)? Should he wear his pit vipers? All valid concerns.

He and his friends planned to meet at Chipotle for dinner. Then he wasn't sure if that was actually going to happen. Then he confirmed it with said friends. Phew.

We showed up at Chipotle and he couldn't tell if his friends were there. They weren't checking their snaps. Were we supposed to go in with him? We definitely weren't supposed to order or pay for his dinner. He decided that we would all go in together but order separately.

(I made the hubs come with me in case I ended up eating, which I did... so good call, Me.)

Oh, his friends were there. Thank goodness! We even got an unsolicited introduction.

He ordered successfully and had a blast with his friends. They were well behaved and even had time to film some Tik Toks. The hubs and I had dinner and I didn't have to cook. I'd say that's a win all around.

We headed over to the school at what felt like a snail's pace (Oh, did I mention that all events in Colorado come with a mandatory flipping snowstorm? So over it.), along with what seemed like everyone and their cousin (this social was already looking like it was going to be a rager), and then we saw it....

A party bus, nnn-sing to some thumping music and LED's, parked in front of the school.

A party bus, y'all.

To a 6th grade social.

I mentioned that they are 11, right? 12 max.

(I might also add that that party bus was taking up valuable drop off space on a very snowy night. But I digress... )

Now, don't get me wrong. If you want to get a party bus for your kid's 6th grade social, more power to you. I'm sure they had so much fun and made a ton of memories.

But what the heck are you going to do when your kid goes to Prom?

Peace ☮️, Love ❤️, & Macaroni 🌼,
