A Note From Your Publisher: The one about the end of summer 📝

By Christen Reiner, Macaroni KID Lakewood-Littleton & Macaroni KID Denver Editor and Publisher August 6, 2022

Hey Mac Families,

You are almost there.

You have provided summer fun, and embraced the lazier lifestyle. You have substituted pool water for bath water, and ice cream for dinner. You have let your kids stay up late and sleep in late. And if you are anything like me, you have let those pipe dreams of getting your kids to pick up a book or a pencil float away like that abandoned beach ball in the neighborhood pool.

And you are probably real sick of having everyone all up in your business ALL THE TIME. You are almost there!

But here's the new issue. School is right around the corner, and while summer is winding down, back to school prep is ramping up.

And back to school means that you have to start actually getting ready to go back to school.

Blech.

It's already started at my house.

Last night, I signed my daughter up for Field Hockey. At 11:30pm. On the last day to sign up.

Why?

Because summer. That's why.

No, we haven't shopped for school supplies or first day of school "fits". I guarantee that by the time we do, we'll be lucky to find a binder that doesn't cost me $12. There will be no hope of finding the elusive graph paper notebook. I've accepted it.

I have, however, purchased a blue wig, a pair of black overalls, and a Peppa Pig backpack for my 17 year old daughter. Senior year. IYKYK.

I'll take that as a win.

I suppose I should make myself a back to school to do list, even though I don't want to actually do the things. I guess I have to do the back to school stuff if I want the kids to go back to school.

Maybe having them home for a few more months wouldn't be so bad.

Peace ☮️, Love ❤️, & Macaroni 🌼,

Christen

PS - If you are still living in summer bliss and have a future or current high schooler, let this be your reminder to check in with the kids about summer assignments that they likely haven't done. Good luck, my friends, good luck.

PSS - No matter how ready I think I am for my kids to go back to school, I do miss them and our lazy days when they do.
