October is National Popcorn Poppin’ Month

For more than 30 years, October has been celebrated as National Popcorn Poppin’ Month, but it didn't become official until 1999, when then Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman proclaimed it. We are sure glad he did, because popcorn is a pretty versatile treat with a long history!

  • Popcorn is over 5000 years old.
  • Popcorn is naturally GMO-free and gluten-free.
  • Water in the the popcorn kernels cause them to pop when heated.
  • Nebraska is the #1 popcorn producer in America at almost 250 million pounds per year.
  • Popcorn was once banned from movie theaters in 1949 because it was too loud.
