On April 24th, book lovers and advocates for intellectual freedom will come together to celebrate Right to Read Day, a day that acknowledges the human right to access and read books without censorship or restrictions.
Book banning is a serious issue that continues to affect communities across the country. Some books have been banned or challenged for their controversial subject matter, such as "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "The Catcher in the Rye." Others have been targeted due to their LGBTQ+ content or depictions of marginalized communities.
Banning books limits our ability to learn, grow, and understand the world around us. Reading diverse perspectives and experiences is critical to developing empathy and building a more inclusive society.
On Right to Read Day, Unite Against Book Bans encourages individuals to take action by reading a banned book, sharing their support on social media, or advocating for intellectual freedom in their community. Together, we can defend our right to read and ensure that everyone has access to a wide range of literature.
