A Note From Your Publisher: The one about effective consequences 📝

Hey Mac Families,

Have you ever been looking forward to a particular snack, treat, or drink all day, only to find that one of your children consumed it?

I'll admit that I get unreasonably upset when this happens. Or reasonably. I mean, I have been looking forward to it ALL DAY.

It happened to me AGAIN this week, and I had had enough. I needed to think of a consequence that was going to make my kid think twice before drinking that last Coke or eating the brownie I had set aside for a late night treat. It had to be good.

I'm not a big fan of taking away TV or phones. Wanna know why? Because that is really just a punishment for me. I am a big fan of what I call "minion time". A set amount of time, a list of chores, no refusal allowed, or more time is added. My kids hate that one. (muah ha ha)

But I needed something different this time. Something that would stick.

My youngest just got a Teen Venmo account, complete with a debit card. We decided that the time was right for that responsibility since he has been pet sitting, dog walking, and babysitting lately to earn some cash. It is also helpful when he is away from home and needs funds, which doesn't happen a ton but enough to make me consider the card.

The card arrived in the mail, and my son was EXCITED. It was activated, he had just gotten paid for a dog walk, and he was ready to hit the grocery store to test it out on a sushi treat he'd been eyeing.

THIS WAS MY CHANCE.

My son did not get that sushi treat that he had his eye on.

He did, however, test out that shiny new Venmo debit card on a 12 pack of Sprite for his mom to replace that last can he drank.

Based on his displeasure, I am pretty sure my Sprites will be safe from now on.

I'm gonna call that a win.

Peace ☮️, Love ❤️, & Macaroni 🌼,
