  1. Paris hosted the Olympic games twice, once in 1900 and once in 1924.
  2. The Phryges (pronounced "FREE-jes") are the mascots of the Paris Games. The little red hats, known as a Phrygian caps (or liberty caps), are a symbol of the French liberation, and they are "sporty, and love to party ... and are so French."
  3. The five Olympic rings represent five continents — Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and Oceana. The blue, yellow, black, green and red colors represent the colors of the flags of all the participating countries at the time they were created.
  4. Team USA is sending 529 athletes, the most of any participating country.
