Kindness matters! So let's spread it where we can - it's free to do! Whether in person or online, kindness matters, so let's use our spoken/written words and actions for good.

Be Kind to Humankind Theme Days

Sunday: "Sacrifice our wants for others' needs Sunday" - this is about helping others, especially with a task they may not be able to complete on their own. Examples for kids and teens: Want to stay in and play video games? Why not ask an elderly neighbor if they need help pulling those relentless summer weeds instead? Grandpa told you he needs to wash the car? Why not skip TV time and offer to help him. There are endless ideas for kids and teens to help those in need right in your community.

Monday: "Motorist Consideration Monday" - Be a more courteous and patient motorist today. Whether you're driving, biking, or using public transportation, try to put someone else before yourself. Allow others to get on the bus before you, leave for work earlier to avoid rushing and allow that other car to merge first, remain in marked lanes on your motorcycle, etc. Alternate ideas for kids and families - hold the door for the line of people behind you, help someone carry their groceries to their car, ask a teacher if you can help pass out papers, smile and say hello to every person you pass today, etc.

Tuesday: "Touch-A-Heart Tuesday" - heart to heart, spread kindness! Compliment a teacher or classmate, ask someone how they are doing and really listen, support a friend's idea or suggestion, smile and make eye contact with everyone you pass today, etc.

Wednesday: "Willing-To-Lend-A-Hand Wednesday" - Offer to help someone in your life with anything they might need. Help a parent make dinner, offer to walk your neighbor's dog, carry a heavy box or bag for a co-worker, help a younger child on or off the school bus, etc.

Thursday: "Thoughtful Thursday" - Demonstrate "treat others as you wish to be treated." Have a bag full of returns and the person behind you only has one? Offer for them to go ahead of you in line! Bring your neighbor's garbage cans up from the street, leave positive sticky notes around your home, classroom, or workplace for others to find, etc.

Friday: "Forgive-Your-Foe Friday" - reach out to someone you've had a disagreement with in the past and apologize or try to mend the relationship. Alternate idea for kids and teen: if an argument might occur, take a deep breath, walk away, or don't take part in the argument.

Saturday: "Speak-Nice-Words Saturday" - Talk at home with your family and children about the power of words. Remind each other to pause before speaking, take a breath, and replace negative thoughts and comments with a positive thoughts and comments. Lift someone's day by sharing compliments.

MacKID suggestion: Take some time as a family this week to reflect and create a plan to join in on next week's Be Kind to Humankind Week! Each day of Be Kind to Humankind Week has a theme that you can follow OR you can create your own random acts of kindness! With many kids heading back to school, this is the perfect time to talk about kindness, positivity, and to remind ourselves how much kindness makes the world a better place.
