By Christen Reiner, Macaroni KID Lakewood-Littleton, Macaroni KID Denver, and Macaroni KID Highlands Ranch-Parker-Castle Rock-Lone Tree Editor and Publisher March 15, 2025

Many people are not fans of traditional Irish Soda Bread. I wanted to make an Irish Soda Bread that my family would actually eat and enjoy, and ever since we came across this recipe from an old family friend years ago, Irish Soda Bread is our favorite part of the celebration. See what you think!

IRRESISTABLE IRISH SODA BREAD

What you need

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup butter (melted)

What you do

  1. Combine dry ingredients
  2. Blend egg and buttermilk
  3. Add egg mixture to dry ingredients
  4. Stir in butter
  5. Grease 9" x 5" bread pan
  6. Bake at 325 degrees for 65 minutes

Pro Tips

  • Place a cookie sheet or foil under your bread pan when cooking. The bread tends to overflow a bit.
  • Make your bread the day before you want to eat it... it tastes even better when it sits overnight!
  • Make your own buttermilk
    • Put 1 Tablespoon of lemon juice in a one cup measuring cup
    • Add enough milk to make one cup
    • Let sit for five minutes

🍀 Happy St. Patrick's Day!
