WE DID IT — OUR DOORS ARE OPEN!

After 20-plus years in the Navy, Tim was ready to retire... but "sit still and relax" was never really his mission profile. He wanted a second act, and it needed to matter.

I'm Sonja, Tim's fiancée, and art has been my thing since I was a tiny kid. I always figured I'd go to school for it — but life had other plans. The housing crisis hit right as I was getting ready to make that leap, and a stable job carried me through it instead. Art never really left, though. Between then and now, I kept it alive through every craft project and hobby piece I could find room for.

So when Tim started looking for his next mission, and this opportunity landed in front of us, I didn't have to think twice.

Together, we started asking ourselves what actually sets kids up for a healthy, happy childhood — one that carries them into a successful adulthood. In our search, we were introduced to the Children's Art Classes community, and we kept landing on the same answer: watching kids' faces light up over every art project they make, and that same spark we've both felt about art our whole lives. There's really nothing like it (okay, maybe ice cream comes close).

We believe every kid deserves real, hands-on, structured creative time — and a place to be proud of something they made with their own two hands.

So we took the leap and joined the program that has now been named "Art Classes Provider of the Year 2026" by Education Insider Magazine — which now feels like a very good sign we weren't completely out of our minds. It took a lot of sweat, a few tears, and more late-night spreadsheets than we'd like to admit, but on September 7th, we finally opened our doors. We're proud of what we built, and we're hoping our new community feels the same way about it.

So, What Does Your Kid Actually Get Out of a Class at Children's Art Classes of Littleton?

Tiny Hands (ages 3-4)

  • Fine motor skills, disguised as finger painting
  • Their first real taste of "I made a choice and it turned out okay"
  • A safe place to get paint on everything (that isn't your kitchen table)
  • Simple color, shape, and texture exploration at a pace that actually fits a 3-year-old's
  • attention span

Introduction to Art (ages 5-6)

  • Following directions and finishing what they started — without a meltdown (usually)
  • Patience and focus, disguised as "just five more minutes on this piece"
  • Real pride in something they made themselves — no participation trophy required
  • An introduction to the tools and materials they'll keep building on for years

Beginning Art (ages 7-8)

  • Actual technique — brush control, shading, proportion — not just "make a mess and call it art"
  • A structured curriculum that builds skills they'll use in every class after this one
  • More ambitious projects that stretch what they think they're capable of
  • A legitimate excuse to wear a paint-splattered smock like a badge of honor

Art 1 (ages 9+)

  • Real, transferable skills across drawing, painting, design, and more — the kind that show up on a portfolio, not just a fridge
  • The confidence that comes from tackling harder projects and actually pulling them off
  • A creative outlet that's entirely theirs — no grade, no score
  • The start of something that could turn into a lifelong hobby, or even a career

Every class, every age, builds on the last — so by the time they've worked through the program, "my kid took an art class" has turned into "my kid draws like a professional" — real, honed skill they can carry with them, whether that's a standout college portfolio or a career down the road.
